Important Federal District Court Win

In Minnesota Life Insurance Company v. Marcia Gayle et. al., a case involving a dispute over life insurance proceeds, Legal Aid attorney Brandon Ballard prevented the insurance company, who filed the action, from taking their attorneys' fee from the proceeds. Finding that the filing of an interpleader action was in the ordinary course of the insurance company's business and so did not justify an award of attorneys' fees, the Federal District Court of Eastern Virginia denied the life insurance company’s request for over $13,500 in attorneys’ fees.  This decision marks a really positive development in the law for this District and shows just what a difference Legal Aid's advocacy can make.
