The ABA reported in its April/May 2024 Magazine that out of 1.3 million lawyers in the United States, there are only 10,000 paid civil legal aid lawyers – or about 3 for every 10,000 people in poverty. In Virginia, it was reported in 2024 that there are approximately 201 paid legal aid attorneys for almost 925,000 people living in poverty – or about 1 for every 4,500 people living in poverty.
