Tricia Batson is the Director of the Pro Bono & Private Attorney Involvement Program at Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia (Legal Aid).
Tricia started practicing law with Legal Aid in 2003 as a Staff Attorney in the Norfolk office and later transferred to the Hampton/Newport News office as a Managing Attorney. During this time, she served with on local community boards, was a frequent presenter for the U.S. Navy Legal Assistance Office at Naval Station Norfolk and Chair of the NPBA Young Lawyers Division. She later served in a voluntary capacity as the Development Coordinator for Legal Aid.
As military moves took Tricia’s family outside of the Hampton Roads area, she continued to serve in numerous volunteer roles and as a contributing author for Leading Practice Profiles for the Association of Corporate Counsel. In this role, she worked with corporate counsel from companies around the world to highlight emerging trends and issues for in-house counsel and outline best practices.
Tricia returned to Legal Aid in 2020 as a senior attorney handling estate planning. Then, in 2021 became the Director of the Pro Bono and Private Attorney Involvement Program. In this role, she organizes pro bono opportunities for attorneys to extend the services provided by Legal Aid. Tricia is an active member of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association, Military Spouse JD Network and numerous local bar associations. She presents regularly to encourage the participation in pro bono work.
Tricia received her degree in Economics from DePauw University and worked in corporate banking in Chicago prior to attending law school. She graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Tricia’s husband, Rick, recently retired as the Judge Advocate General and General Counsel of the United States Coast Guard after 36 years of service. Their son is a junior at Randolph Macon College and their daughter is a sophomore at North Carolina State University.
