Melissa joined LASEV in 2015.  She started as the Homeless Outreach Attorney, and she also worked as a Staff Attorney in the Norfolk office and the Managing Attorney of the Hampton and Norfolk offices before becoming the Deputy Director & Director of Litigation.  While Melissa has experience in all areas of poverty law, she is particularly passionate about housing law and working towards systemic change through affirmative litigation. 

Prior to joining LASEV, Melissa practiced in Los Angeles where she was an associate in the commercial litigation group of two law firms, volunteered for Public Counsel and handled a number of pro bono cases for animal protection organizations.  While at LASEV, she has served on the Board of the Southeastern Virginia Homeless Coalition and is currently on the Board for Virginia Beach CASA.
